# How links work in Knowasiak posts

A link in a Knowasiak post is shown as a source line under your words, opens in the built-in browser first, and carries Knowasiak's tag so the site owner can see the visit. Here is what readers see, what site owners see, and how to share a link so people open it.

## In short

Knowasiak shows a shared link as the linked page's picture and a "Read more on site.com" line under the post, not as a preview card, so the writing comes first. Links open in a built-in browser with a button to open a new tab, and every outbound link carries utm_source=knowasiak for the site's analytics. Links are marked nofollow and ugc. Links to a domain the author has verified show "Verified site".

## What readers see

When a post shares a link and has no photos of its own:

- **The linked page's picture** becomes the post's picture, when the page has a good one (at least 360 pixels wide). Otherwise it is left out.
- **A source line** under the post: "Read more on site.com".
- **The address itself** is taken out of the text when it sits on a line of its own, since the source line already shows it.

This replaced preview cards in November 2026. A page of cards made every post look like an advert for somewhere else; a source line keeps the author's words first, the way an article cites its source. Links to Knowasiak pages get no source line.

YouTube links are different: the video plays in the post, in a 16:9 frame, and keeps playing in a small window while you scroll.

## The built-in browser

Opening a link shows the page in a panel inside Knowasiak: a side panel on wide screens, a sheet on phones. You read it, close it and you are back on the post. The panel's top bar shows the site's name and has buttons to share the link and to open it in a new tab.

Some sites tell browsers not to show them inside other sites. For those, the panel says so and offers to open the page in a new tab.

## The tag site owners see

Every link that leaves Knowasiak, in posts, profiles and source lines, carries `utm_source=knowasiak`. In Google Analytics and similar tools, those visits appear under the source "knowasiak", so the owner of the site can see how many readers Knowasiak sent.

- If the link already had a different `utm_source`, Knowasiak's replaces it. Other parameters, such as `utm_campaign`, are kept.
- Signed links (with a token or signature in them) and share buttons for other sites are left exactly as they are, because changing them would break them.

The tag doesn't track readers on Knowasiak or follow them around the web; it is a label on the address, visible to anyone who looks at the link.

## Nofollow and search engines

Links in posts are marked `rel="nofollow ugc"`: they were written by members, and Knowasiak doesn't vouch for every site they point to. Search engines then don't count them as a vote for the linked site. That's the standard for sites where anyone can post, and it is part of why Knowasiak isn't worth spamming.

What a link on Knowasiak does bring is readers. A post that explains what is behind the link sends people who already want what you offer.

## The "Verified site" mark

When a link points to a domain the author has proved is theirs, by **verifying their business or work email**, the source line shows **Verified site**. It covers the domain and any part of it (shop.example.com for example.com).

Authors who link to their own site before verifying see a "Verify you own this site" link on their own posts. Nobody else sees it.

## Link limits

An account can put two links in a post in its first 30 days, and four after that. Website addresses written out in the text ("example.com") count as links too. The limit keeps link-dropping accounts from filling the feed; [more on how spam is kept out](https://knowasiak.com/help/how-we-fight-spam).

## How to share a link people open

1. **Say what it is** in your own words: what the reader will find and why it matters to them.
2. **Give the key point in the post**, so it is worth reading even without opening the link. Posts that are little more than a link [rank low in the feed](https://knowasiak.com/help/how-the-feed-works).
3. **Use one link**, not several.
4. **Verify your site**, so readers see it really is yours.

## Questions

### Do links in Knowasiak posts help my site's search ranking?
Not directly. Like most social sites, Knowasiak marks links in posts "nofollow" and "ugc", which tells search engines not to count them as a vote for the site. What they do bring is readers: people who open your post and want more.

### Why did my utm_source change to knowasiak?
Every link that leaves Knowasiak carries utm_source=knowasiak, so the site owner's analytics can see the visit came from here. If a link already had a different utm_source, Knowasiak's replaces it; your other parameters, such as utm_campaign, are kept. Signed links and share buttons are left untouched, because changing them would break them.

### Why did a link open inside Knowasiak?
Links open in the built-in browser first, so you can read the page and come straight back to the post. The button at the top opens it in a new tab instead. Some sites refuse to be shown inside other sites; for those, the panel says so and offers the new tab.

### Why doesn't my post show a preview card?
Posts show the linked page's picture and a "Read more on" line instead of a card, so your words come first. If the page's picture is missing or too small, only the line shows.

### How do I get the "Verified site" mark?
Verify your business or your work email in **Settings, Verification**. Links to that domain, or any part of it, then show "Verified site" in your posts.

### How many links can I put in a post?
Two in an account's first 30 days, four after that. Website addresses written out in the text count too.
