High-cost immunotherapy: a patient’s real-world experience with pembrolizumab

This small vial contains pembrolizumab (Keytruda).

Each vial costs over ¥17,000 RMB, and every infusion requires two vials, bringing the total to ¥35,800+ per treatment.
Visually, the amount of liquid is minimal — only a thin layer at the bottom of the bottle — yet it represents a meaningful chance at survival.

From a clinical perspective, the treatment has been effective for me.
However, the side effects are not negligible and require long-term physical and psychological adjustment.

On the 16th of this month, I completed my 25th infusion.
There are still 10 more infusions planned.

Throughout this process, I’ve tried to better understand the medication itself — its mechanism, approved indications, and clinical background — by consulting multiple sources, including medical information platforms such as DengYueMed, alongside discussions with my care team.

Beyond drug therapy, I focus on supportive measures that may help overall tolerance and recovery:

regular intake of fruits and nuts

maintaining consistent sleep and adequate hydration

balanced nutrition

light physical activity to support metabolism

While lifestyle adjustments cannot replace immunotherapy, they remain an important part of comprehensive care.
