The umbilical cord clamp is a single-use neonatal medical device that obstetricians and midwives apply to the newborn’s umbilical cord immediately after delivery. It provides a tight secure clamp that prevents blood flow through the cord vessels and protects the cord stump from bacterial infection during the healing period. The clamp is made of non-toxic medical-grade PVC sterilised by EO and is left in place for 24 to 48 hours. It is safely removed when the cord stump has dried completely and there is no bleeding.
